Terrarium TV has closed down for good. And even though you can still use the app with a “patched” or “modded” APK, it will never get updated with the new content. So, as soon as I heard that Terrarium TV was going away, I started putting together a list of apps that could replace it in the best way. OneBox HD was one of the first things I thought of. That’s because it has been one of the most popular services for streaming on Android. So I decided to try it.
Even though OneBox HD has been shut down, it still works on FireStick. However, it is not as good as it used to be, even though it has been updated to work with the remote control. There haven’t been any updates to the app in a long time. Even though new and popular content might be available, it usually doesn’t show up on the app’s main screen. You have to look it up yourself. The TV’s user interface is also not very good. I don’t think this app is a good replacement for Terrarium TV because of this. There are better apps on our list of the best apps for FireStick that you may want to try.
Update: The OneBox HD is back up and running. But you must first sideload MV Cast-Player, an extra video player, onto FireStick.
Note: Even though the latest version of the OneBox HD works better with remotes than before, you may still have trouble using the app while a video is playing. For example, the Play/Pause button isn’t as easy to use as it should be. You can fix navigation problems like this on FireStick by installing and using Mouse Toggle.
OneBox HD for FireStick
To install an app from the Amazon Store, all you have to do is go to the search bar at the top left of the home screen of your FireStick and look for the app you want.
But things aren’t as simple with apps that need to be downloaded from somewhere else. OneBox HD is not an app you can get from the Amazon Store, so it will have to be put on your FireStick by hand. Here are the things you need before you can install such an app:
- Unknown Sources apps must be turned on.
- You need an extra app that makes sideloading possible on FireStick.
Don’t be afraid! Even if things look hard, I will help you figure them out.
Apps from Unknown Sources should be turned on.
Apps from Unknown Sources is a security setting that is turned off by default to stop people from downloading apps from unknown sources. Since OneBox HD is safe, we will turn on this setting by doing the following:
1. From the menu bar at the top of the FireStick home screen, choose Settings.
2. On the next screen, click “Open Device.”
3. Click on Developer Options and open it.
4. If Apps from Unknown Sources is OFF, click it to turn it ON.
5. When asked, click “Turn On.”
That’s enough!
Steps for Setting Up: Onebox HD
I told you that in order to install apps like OneBox HD on FireStick, you need an extra side-loading app. You can use one of two popular apps:
- Downloader
- ES File Explorer
The Amazon Store has both of these apps. As I said, just use the search function on your FireStick’s home screen to find them and install them.
Now, we’ll talk about how to install the OneBox HD app on FireStick using both of these apps one at a time.
Method 1: Use Downloader to put OneBox HD on FireStick.
Update: The OneBox HD is back up and running. But you must first sideload MV Cast-Player, an extra video player, onto FireStick. There are instructions for each of the steps below.
After you’ve downloaded Downloader from the Amazon Store, open it and do the following:
Step 1: On the right side of the main screen of the Downloader app, there should be a space for you to type in the URL (make sure Home tab on the left is selected). If you click inside this box
Step 2: Type the following URL for the OneBox HD APK and click GO:

Do not click on the image’s link: http://bit.ly/onebox1
Important: Once you have installed OneBox HD, follow these steps again and install MV Cast-Player from this link: https://www.firesticktricks.com/mv
Without this player, OneBox HD won’t work.
Step 3: The Downloader app will connect to the server where the OneBox HD APK file is stored and start to download this file in a few moments.
Step 4: When the APK download is done, the Downloader app will quickly run the file and start the installation. Click Install at the bottom right of this window.
Step 5: Let FireStick put the OneBox HD app on your device. The App Installed message is shown when this app is installed, as shown below. When you click Open, the app starts running right away. But let’s click “Done” first.
Step 6: When you click “Done,” the Downloader app opens again. Here, you will see the next prompt.
To get rid of the OneBox HD APK file from the FireStick, click “Delete.” Your device only has a small amount of storage space, so there’s no point in keeping files you no longer need.
Step 7: Click “Delete” once more.
All done! You could now go back to the FireStick interface and run the OneBox HD app.

Method 2: Use ES File Explorer to install OneBox HD on Fire Stick. This method costs $9.99 per month for a premium subscription.
This is just another way to do it. You can skip this method if you have already used the Downloader method (Method 1).
I’m going to assume that you’ve already put the ES File Explorer app on your FireStick. If not, as I said before, you can do it from Amazon Store. To set up OneBox HD, do the following:
Step 1: There is a menu sidebar on the left of the main screen of ES File Explorer. Click Tools > Download Manager on this menu bar.
Step 2: There are a lot of choices in the bottom right corner. Click the one that says “+New” first.
Step 3: In the Path field of the next dialogue box, type the following URL: https://www.firesticktricks.com/onebox
In the Name field, type oneboxhd or any other name you want. Click Download Now when you’re done.
Step 4: ES File Explorer will get the OneBox HD APK from the server and download it to FireStick.
Step 5: Click the “Open file” button when the download is done.
Step 6: Click Install when you see the following message.
Step 7: This starts the process of installing. Click Install to give your final confirmation.
Step 8: Now, wait for the message that says “App Installed.” Click Open to run the app. Click Done to go back to the ES File Explorer app.
You can delete the APK file from the Download folder in the ES File Explorer app to make room.

How to Use OneBox HD on a Fire TV Stick
Your Apps & Channels is where you’ll find the app you just added to FireStick.
When you first open the app, it may tell you that there is a newer version available. If that’s the case, you’ll need the new version of the app to use it. There is no way to stop the update from happening. So, press OK. It won’t take too much time.
Just wait until the download is done. Follow the instructions on the screen to finish the setup (by clicking Install on the next window)
When the confirmation message below shows up, click Open.
The upgrade does not replace the copy of OneBox HD that you already have. It makes a new copy of the app instead. That’s the first time I’ve seen an app do something like that.
When you run the new version, you will be asked if you want to get rid of the old one.
Just click the OK button. It doesn’t make sense to keep the old version.
You can now use FireStick to watch OneBox HD. Here is the app’s main screen.
In the top right corner, you’ll see a dropdown menu called “Genres.” This lets you sort the content by genre. Next to it is the Search icon, which lets you use keywords to find the content.
To switch between movies and TV shows, click the menu button in the top left corner of the app.
As I’ve already said, using Mouse Toggle with OneBox HD will make it easier to play and move around.
